There is a common belief that it is impossible to predict the result from a truely random system. Logically, this seems to be a correct assumption. However there is a certain mathematics to randomness. One of it's rules is called "The Law of Averages". This law states that in a truely random system where all things are equal, given enough time all results will be equal.

The classic coin-toss is a perfect example of the law at work. If we toss a coin 10 times the law implies we should get 5 heads and 5 tails, but it rarely goes that way. Usually it's a 6-4 or 7-3 ratio of one or the other.

It is at this point of the demo that common belief begins to take a beating. If you hit, say 7 heads and 3 tails from your coin toss, the law says (all things being equal) you should get more tails than heads in your next 10 tosses. Anyone armed with this fact and betting the result has an edge on the game! Parallel system: Red/Black at the roulette wheel.

Lotto Cheatah is NOT a random number generator! It analyzes the algorthyms produced by the past winning lines of your selected lottery to produce probable winning patterns and overdue-to-hit numbers. It uses a highly refined form of statistical math to give you, the Lottery player, that winning edge on the game. Years of real world lottery player use has shown that over the long haul (10 draws or better) using Lotto Cheatah picks increases your chances of winning at least 3-fold. Sometimes you'll get skunked, but not as often as with other picking methods. Sometimes you'll win a little, and occasionally you hit big and win a lot!

Lotto Cheatah is Smartware. It uses an advanced logic system commonly known as Fuzzy Logic.
Conventional logic has one of two possible outcomes: the answer is either yes or no. Fuzzy Logic
evaluates the question differently. It provides 3 possible answers: Yes, No or (degrees of) Maybe.

Conceptually, conventional logic sees things as either black or white. Fuzzy Logic sees things in
grey-scale. Given the same problem and the same set of variables, conventional logic will always
produce the same answer. Due to the "maybe" factor, Fuzzy Logic can look at the same problem
many different ways and can  produce a number of different likely answers.

Fuzzy Logic allows each [Pick a winner] selection to (usually, but not always) be different from the
previous. Duplicates may occur if you are making a number of picks (say, 10 or more) from the same
pick setting.  Duplicates within a selection of  n-picks can be seen as a statement of confidence by
Lotto Cheatah in this particular line. It's a "Mikey likes it" statement.

Duplicate picks are quickly found by:

  1. saving the picks to file (save [x] checkbox checked before you pick), then

  2. [view button] viewing the saved picks, then

  3. clicking the [sort] button.

Use the viewer's [Export] function to edit your sorted lines for final ticket selection.

* Newbie's shortcut: Slowly mouse over the objects on any Lotto Cheatah display. This will cause the hint (explanation-of-function) windows to temporarily display. Some objects will cause the cursor to change from an arrow pointer to a finger-pointer as they are moused-over. Click on finger-pointer object for in-depth details on this context.

New users to the software often test it with a few saved picks the day before or morning of the game. These picks are usually not purchased. From time to time (see Hit Parade) Lotto Cheatah will hit that game hard, and their saved picks will be full of winners.. BIG winners! Even Jackpot winners! Can you guess what happens next?

Ron's number #1 strategy: Play Responsibly!

The object of the exercise is to win more, not bet more. Lotto Cheatah is not a prize-every-time machine, but it will allow you over time to win more, win bigger and win more often than any other known method of playing the game, [especially] including the quick-pick. Proof of this statement can be seen in the many jackpot and runner-up winning Lotto Cheatah picks posted daily on The Hit Parade. The current money-winning hit rate for the game(s) you play can be found on the opening screen of any Lotto Cheatah game display*.

*Using the default install settings [+ your selected startup game]:
Directly below the [Pick a winner button] is the current money winning hit rate for this game and pick setting . At the bottom of the "What's Not" panel is the money winning hit rate for the quickpick**. Compare the two and you will be quite amazed at just how much better a Lotto Cheatah pick is!
**Displayed hit rates are usually for 3/5 - 3/6 - 4/7 or better averaged over the past 10 draws. Hold your mouse pointer over the hit rate for details.

Lotto Cheatah installs configured to provide you with no worse than *arguably the best possible [could be ties] pick setting for every game on the menu. These are the settings used for the daily What's Hot website update. They provide the pick setting that has provided the most money-paying hits, 2-hits, 3-hits on Lotto Super7 and jackpots excluded, over the past 10 draws. The argument being that what has happened will happen.

However, this is just one of many possible configurations. Within menu item Config you can change the argument to give you the record pick setting, ie; the one that has had the most hits.. forever! At the present forever is 100 past draws for the automatic settings and.. well, forever for manual settings. Or the setting that has paid the most money [By Score] rather than had the most hits.  Or both.

Within Lotto Cheatah you will find many, many possible settings, or strategies. These are conceptual approaches to the game.  There is no truely right or wrong strategy. For any given draw yours may produce picks that either hit, miss or partially hit on that draw. The next draw may be a completely new scenario. Overall the various strategies probably average out.

I will say it one more time, because it is a very important a concept: Don't bet any more than you would using any other lottery picking method, including the quickpick. We all want to hit that Jackpot. Your best bet is to bet what you usually bet. Over time you will find that using Lotto Cheatah picks you will win more, win bigger and win more often than you did before. This will lower your cost of playing for that jackpot, provided you continue to play responsibly.

Ron's #2 Strategy: Play smarter, not harder
(a.k.a.:Timing is everything)

From time to time, usually after a cold cycle (few hits, no big hits) Lotto Cheatah will go on a hot run which can span several games. Typically (with *many* exceptions) the

  1. "Near Future" gauge will be full into the red,
  2. trend arrow will be down and
  3. over/under average value will be a negative value (using default settings)

The "Hit Rate" value will (again, typically but not always) be somewhere between 2% and 5% when the run starts.

  1. Some winning tickets,
  2. an increase in the hit rate and trend value,
  3. and a Depth Chart hit count of 100+ money-paying hits for the current game

are all indicators that a hot run may have begun.

Getting in on a hot run early is definitely a fun time. You can win some serious coin (and lots of free tickets, if applicable) before the hot run turns cycles back to cold. Be warned: There are usually at least a few dud games scattered through even the hottest run.

Q. How long can a hot or cold run last?
A.
They can last.. Example: At (15 Aug. 2004) the time this was written :

The hottest run going was on the Florida Lotto. Over the past 10 games:

  1. Hit Rate: 12% winners hitting 3/6 or better, and
  2. a Trend Value of 474 hits over (Lotto Cheatah's historical ) average for this game.

The coldest run going was on the Pennsylvania Cash 5 lotto. Over the past 10 games:

  1. Hit Rate: 3% winners (still 3x better than random chance!) hitting 3/5 or better, and
  2. a Trend Value of 145 hits under (Lotto Cheatah's historical) average for this game.

Ideally, play though the cold cycles knowing that the hot run will eventually come (a hot run has always followed a cold run).

  1. Get in from the beginning,
  2. Play Responsibly,
  3. Win, Win, Win,

then perhaps you can justify buying another ticket or two (.. it feels better with "their" money!) Until you hit that BIG ONE, that's how to play the game!

Ron's #3 Strategy: The Fishing Hole

Every possible pick setting (each specific Depth/Companions combination) can be seen as similar to a fishing hole. Some days they're biting, some days not. Like most fishing holes there always seems to be far more little ones than big ones, and this is usually the case with Lotto Cheatah winners. There are (almost) always more minimum win hits than there are big (4/5's, 5/6's and jackpot) hits. Pick from the right fishing hole (pick setting) at the right time (difficult to predict) and you can be filling your wallet while other pick settings are getting skunked!

So, what makes for a good or great fishing hole (pick setting)? An experienced angler might tell you that the best fish are caught where they have been caught before:
One registered Lotto Cheatah user and subsequent Jackpot winner didn't even own a computer at the time. He bought his key online on WebTV!  He then talked me into emailing him his daily 10 Illinois Little Lotto picks.  His pick setting choice started with a perusal of the website Hit Parade posts. He found a pick setting (Depth 95, Companions Checked) that had come as close as possible to hitting the jackpot without actually hitting it, and that's where he dropped his fishing line.

About three months passed. Jeff (his real name) had hit numerous 3/5's and a few 4/5's during this stretch. Each time he had winners in his picks I would email him "Check Your Tickets!". This night his 10 picks held four 3/5 winners, two 4/5 winners and one big 5/5 jackpot winner! Jeff emails me back: "I have the ticket!".

Needless to say, Jeff now owns a very expensive computer and is a dedicated Lotto Cheatah user. Patience plus the right  pick setting may, can and has paid off in huge dividends!

Special Note: Jeff didn't even own a computer, but he knew he was going to hit the jackpot with Lotto Cheatah when he registered. He told me so when he emailed me requesting his daily picks..  I don't know how he knew, but he knew! The Lesson here is that great things can come from positive thinking.

Ron's #4 Strategy: Depth Spanning
depth spanning: 3 dates back

depth spanning: 1 date

Blue=Companions checked.
  Green=Companions unchecked

The Lotto Cheatah Charts Area is accessed via the Lottery Menu or a speed button on the What's Hot panel. In the above example (Illinois Lotto) the depth chart snippet shows one date; 21 Aug. 04 selected, and the hit % results for depths 50 through 120 on that date.

If you were playing this game and picking from depth 75, Companions checked or depths 95 through 100 unchecked, then you were picking 1 money-winning combination for every ten lines selected, ie; you were winning as much or more than you were betting. If you were picking from any of the ungraphed settings you were hitting money on less than 10% of your picks. Fair, perhaps good but certainly not astounding performance, yet the information it provides may be just what you need to position yourself correctly for the next draw.

depth spanning: 3 plus 2 dates back
depth spanning: 2 dates

Multi-selecting 21 Aug. 04 and 25 Aug. 04 yields a composite of the draw results for the combined two dates. At first glance a number of things are apparent. Among them:

  • More hits using Companions unchecked than checked.

  • Depth 95 unchecked hit well again.

  • Depth 75 Companions checked did not hit well again, but pick settings on either side of it did.

  • The hits tend to be grouped into contiguous spans, then scattered within the span.

  • Some settings that did not hit well or at all last draw did great on the next draw.

  • Within the display area there are more new hits charted to the left of the previous hits than to the right.

Analyzing the data, and applying the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rule may, can and has paid huge dividends. The data says:

  1. Bet Companions unchecked.

  2. Narrowing further: Depth 95 Companions unchecked hit well the last 2 draws, but Lotto Cheatah performed even better to the left of 95, so bet Companions unchecked to the left (lower) than depth 95.

  3. Narrowing further: Spread your bets across well performing contiguous spans left of depth 95.

This strategy narrows down our potential pick settings to just a few choices:

  1. Depths 85 and 90, Companions unchecked

  2. Depths 65,70 and 75, Companions unchecked, and

  3. Depths 50 and 55, Companions unchecked.

Assuming you had bet the next game, 10 picks at each of these settings. How would you have made out?

depth spanning: last 3 dates
depth spanning: last 3 dates

  • Depth 50 and 55, Companions unchecked produced 10% money-winning picks.

  • Depth 65 ,Companions unchecked produced 20% money-winning picks

  • Depth 70, Companions unchecked produced 10% money-winning picks

  • Depth 75, Companions unchecked produced <10% money-winning picks

  • Depths 85 and 90, Companions unchecked produced 10% money-winning picks

The following tips and FAQ's [Frequently Asked Questions] apply mainly to main screen Lotto Cheatah functions.

  1. Play responsibly! Don't bet more than you would using any other lottery picking mechanism.

  2. Get to know the software. Stick to your favorite lotteries. Spend as much time as you need. Explore/experiment with all the buttons, check boxes and menu options. Lotto Cheatah has limited free lottery updates but no time expiry.

  3. For best results make sure you have the newest lottery database (click the [Update Lottery] button) before you make your picks. You need 1 credit to update your game. Note: no credit is deducted if you already have the current database.

  4. It is probably best to stick with the [default] Weight Factor of 1. [FAQ What Weight Factor To Use?]
[ Also see The Weight Factor Experiment ].

  5. Any depth factor can and does produce winning picks. The default [100] depth setting has proved quite effective as the minimum-depth setting for producing winning picks.

  6. Split your picks between Companions checked and unchecked. [FAQ: What is the "Companions" checkbox for?]

  7. If such are legal in your region, do form or join a Lotto Cheatah lottery pool.

  8. For pools: Start at a depth between 100 and 200 and work upwards. Stick to the same number of picks per depth increment.

  9. For pools: Alternate your picks between Companions checked and unchecked, ie pick 10 @ depth 100 companions checked, pick 10 @ depth 100 companions unchecked, pick 10 @ depth 105 companions checked, etc...

  10. Pools, lottery ticket vendors and those wishing to evaluate Lotto Cheatah's performance: Use the PowerPicker function.

  11. Unless they are exact duplicate picks, do purchase all tickets picked.

A Lotto Cheatah user asks: What weight factor [1 - 10] should I use?

"The Weight Factor spindial is one of those black box thingys from the world of quantum physics that nobody's quite sure about. The default is 1 and represents the degree of randomness seen in the (lotto) universe. The higher the number, the less randomness you have until, at weight 10, you have only a dozen or so combinations that can possibly occur.. Of course, that's so far out in lala land that it is likely to be true only in your wildest dreams.

All that said, I provide Lotto Cheatah's Egg Picker for Pick 3 and Pick 4 games on the optional Lotto Cheatah CD (available from Digital River Inc via their subsidiary, RegSoft.com). The Egg Picker uses the principles of the Global Consciousness Project at Princeton University. You can read a blurb about it and get a link to it at getkey.htm .

Anyway, if the egg picker starts going non-random then you could consider cranking up the weight. Other than that I would leave it at the default 1. Consider the weight factor wheel to be somewhat of a black hole. Black holes are probably best avoided."

Q. In a Big Mix Report (all pick settings depths 50 thru 500) do the lowest Mix Odds represent your best chance at hitting the jackpot?

A. Yes, the lowest mix odds represent your best chance at hitting the jackpot.. but it also represents your worst chance at hitting anything at all.

The fewer numbers you have in "your" drum, the better the odds of hitting the jackpot IF all the winning numbers are in your drum (a.k.a. mix report pick setting).

At the same time, the fewer numbers you have in "your" drum, the better your chance of missing all the winning numbers. In this scenario every pick using these pick settings comes up a loser, no matter how many you buy.

So, both best and worst at the same time. Call it the X-factor; X = eXtreme

Q. On the multi trend chart, looking at the current hits and the draw before that, you would you simply take the highest hits of those two dates to determine the trend?

When you see an increase in hits, of course thats when you would want to play, correct?

A. The last draw compared to the draw before is the "current" trend, however while trends are usually short lived they can extend through multiple draws.

Personally, a down trend doesn't mean I wouldn't bet. It means LC hasn't hit that well so far today, so I would probably buy fewer tickets. That said, if the jackpot was huge I would probably buy more tickets anyway. The down trend may have run its course by draw time.

Q. Would you have to update all the games on the menu just to get  a current reading on the trend chart?

A. You have to update all the games that you wish to include on your chart. Normally those would be games that come in an before your ticket sales close.

For Wed & Sat this would be UK Lotto and UK Thunderball and somewhat (probably too much) later the Missouri Lotto. Mon-Sat pick 5 would likely be AZ fantasy 5 from the night before. For daily pick 5 games you might use GA Fantasy 5 from the night before.

There are also the daily and bi-weekly PA and NJ games which usually come in between 5PM and 6PM pacific. These results might come in too late for some games.

Q. On the Mix Report what does "projected to be below average through at least 0 more draws" mean? Does it mean that the cold spell on a game is over?

A. It means that the game:

  1. either has no data from the Hitometer to report. New games with little or no past draw history for example, or

  2. it is bang-on its historical 10-draw average. In this case it is not expected to hit above average, nor is it expected to hit below. Each has an equal chance of happening.. It is expected to hit below average for 0 draws is true. It needs another draw to see which way things develop.

Q. You mentioned that you run Lotto Cheatah to generate 10 picks every morning [see Lotto Cheatah Hit Parade]. What do you mean by EVERY PICK SETTING for each game? Also, what do you mean your TOTAL NUMBER OF PICK SETTINGS PER GAME ARE BETWEEN 4 AND 91, DEPENDING ON PAST-DRAW HISTORY?

A. The best way to understand the PowerPicker function is to run it yourself. Basicly, a pick setting is a number representing the number of past draws used in making the calculation. Pick settings start at 50 and increase in increments of 5 (50,55,60,etc).

Pick settings for some long running games can go into the thousands of past draws, but Lotto Cheatah's automated features only look at the last 500 draws. The logic being that any draw older than 500 draws is so old as to be no longer relevant to what is happening today.

Some, actually quite a few games have not been around that long and have less than 500 draws of past history. Powerball just changed format by adding two more balls. They will have only 1 draw of past history after tonight's draw.

Powerball is a good example of a game that has only 4 pick settings. Actually it has only one true pick setting, but that setting has 4 flavors that produce 4 different sets of results.. so you can call it 4 pick settings. There is depth 50 (the minimum depth setting), and there is depth 50 with Companions checked (numbers commonly picked together). That's two settings. The PowerPicker ends its run with one final set of picks using the full database. In the case of PowerBall these will get labelled Depth 55 and 55 Companions checked, thus a total of 4 pick settings.

Games that have a full PowerPicker database (500 or more past draws) will have a total of 91 pick settings, so all games will have somewhere between 4 and 91 pick settings for the daily picks.

The Lotto Cheatah PowerPicker

Pool Masters, those who buy or sell LOTS of tickets and those who want to evaluate Lotto Cheatah's winning performance will find a great click-finger saver in Lotto Cheatah's PowerPicker function.

PowerPicker is an automated feature available in v1.06 and higher. It saves a specified number of picks for any lotto on the menu, Companions checked and unchecked from all depth settings starting at [you pick it] to a maximum depth of 500, or the end of the past-draw database, whichever comes first. Just follow the four steps outlined below to engage the PowerPicker, then sit back and watch Lotto Cheatah pump out the picks.

Lotto Cheatah PowerPicker

Update your lottery database after the draw. Lotto Cheatah will scan all your saved picks for winners and display them all for you on the "Hit Parade". The updated lottery results are usually online within 1 hour following the draw.

Note: You don't need to use the PowerPicker to scan for winners. All saved picks are scanned for winners each time you update your lottery database.

What Depth Factor to use?
Also see
Depth Finder pictorial

The default depth setting of 100 draws is seen as a best-guess starting point. It represents enough draw results for Lotto Cheatah to get a feel for the lottery system, yet not so many as to be years removed from the current action. It is a generic setting and may or may not represent the best setting for your particular game at any point in time.

Winning picks are produced at all depth settings. When Lotto Cheatah hits big at one depth setting, all depth settings [100 to 500] will usually produce winners. One particular depth factor may produce more winners or bigger winners than another. Finding the right depth is like fishing. When they're biting, they're biting.. but you will catch more and catch bigger from a good fishing hole.

So, where are the good fishing holes? An experienced angler might say the big ones are caught where they've been caught before. Check out the Lotto Cheatah hit parade, and good luck

More on Depth, from an email to a user:
.. Depth is the great unknown quantity. At times it seems there is a definite pattern to the best depth, such as all games being hottest within a certain depth range. I don't know if this is just coincidence, due to the phase of the moon, or what, but it is there enough to notice. Lately (last 2 weeks) the 100's have been hottest.. but that may be changing to deep settings again as Texas Cash 5 has now hit 4/5 two days in a row in the 400's; 425 on Mon, 400 on Tue. Could mean 375 for today's Cash 5 ? and perhaps a few others..

a user asks
What is the Companions checkbox for?

[the email reply]
There is a checkbox in menu item 'Config' called 'Show Hints'. This feature would normally be 'on' unless you unchecked that checkbox.

[With 'Show Hints' checked] Hold your mouse pointer over the 'Companions' checkbox. A small window should appear saying "numbers commonly picked together". Hold the pointer over any numbered ball, button, checkbox or dialog [pretty much anything] anywhere within Lotto Cheatah for a context-sensitive description.

A classic example of the Companions function at work is the Iowa $100,000 Cash Game last night (July 27/02 results 8-10-11-29-31). Lotto Cheatah picked a 4/5 plus six 3/5 winners in the first 7 picks at the default 100 setting with Companions checked. It hit 0/7 at the same setting with Companions unchecked.

Reason? Numbers 29 and 31 are 'Companions'. They have been drawn together 3 times during the last 5 weeks. The combination 10 and 29 have also been drawn together 3 times over the past 2 months (brings the 10 into the mix) AND one of the due numbers (which hit) was commonly drawn with one of these three. That's four. All we need to catch is that last number. That's the 'Companions' feature doing a bit of its best work.

There was more than one $100,000 Jackpot in there for someone picking the 50 to 100 depth range yesterday. Lotto Cheatah had this one nailed.. if (and only if) you played Companions checked and fished shallow. Sometimes it goes that way, sometimes all the big winners will be with Companions unchecked, and sometimes it makes no difference. You never know how it will turn out, so it's best to bet a straddle, ie; split your picks between Companions checked and unchecked.

Q. I reinstalled the full version of Lotto Cheatah and now it won't run. I get a Security Breach message that says "Unauthorized database modification detected. Unlock with fixdata.exe". What happened?

A. The full version provides 8 free credits and installs everything, including the database. It is intended to be installed only once per computer.

Lotto Cheatah will always lock up with a security violation if it detects its database is not exactly the way it left it. Existing users should always upgrade using the upgrade version, which contains everything in the full version except the database.

Fixdata.exe is in your Program Files\Lotto Cheatah folder. You need to be a key holder to use fixdata. See the reinstall instructions in your key-issue email.

 Play For Credits Lotto

Play For Credits Lotto first appeared in Lotto Cheatah v1.5 Xmas Edition 2004. There are two main considerations when betting credits on the game. The first consideration has two parts:

  1. The game is honest. You are playing the odds (every pick has the same chance as every other pick).

  2. A 10-credit bet provides much better payouts (per credit) than a 1-credit bet.

The odds of picking the only losing combination; the 2-hit, are 1 : 2.5. This means that the game will hit a winning combination (on average) 2 1/2 times more than the loser. Playing a 0 bet until a run of 2-hits develops and then ends may place you in a betting position where statistically the chances of a 2-hit are less likely for awhile.

The second consideration is the payout. The game wins more often than it loses, so the problem is not winning but rather winning enough to more than make up for the losing 2-hits. Being a keyholder increases your payouts by 10% per key*.

Increased payouts can and does make a huge difference in the direction the credit window tends to travel. A single key changes the entire perspective of the game. Where the minimum win (1/5) pays a free play without key a key, it pays 10% more with a key, ie; playing a 10-bet the payout for a 1-hit becomes 11 credits.

*All payouts at all bet levels increase by 10% per key, however fractional credits are not recognized. Example, a 1/5 hit while playing a 1-credit bet pays 1 credit with 0 keys and 1 credit with 1 key (1 + 10% = 1.1 = 1).

Please Note: You shouldn't have to continually buy a key to keep playing. Play For Credits Lotto was created for the sole purpose of rewarding the long-time Lotto Cheatah user. The payouts are structured [big picture] to change from favoring the house to favoring the player at 3 keys. The more keys you have, the more credits you win playing this game.
